It’s pretty fitting that oven roasted garlic is the first recipe we’re posting in our blog because we use a lot of garlic in a lot of our recipes. I doubt you’d be reading this if garlic isn’t your thing, but if it’s not, you might want to find another website for recipes. This super easy oven roasted garlic recipe will be an ingredient in tons of the recipes you’ll find here in The Oney Kitchen.
If you’re like me, I almost always add more minced garlic than recipes call for. Why am I even going to dirty my garlic mincer for 1 or 2 garlic cloves? I like to make this in large batches and freeze the oven roasted garlic in ice cube trays for future use. By doing this, I save time in two ways. I don’t have to mince the garlic, and I don’t have to wash the garlic mincer.
We LOVE garlic (gotta keep the vampires away some way) and popping a frozen oven roasted garlic cube into a recipe is so convenient and easy. One cube is about equal to a small head of garlic. Throw them in the skillet to sauté veggies, or in a crockpot of soup. Thaw it and add to marinades, or make roasted garlic butter. The possibilities are endless when it comes to having convenient, yummy oven roasted garlic on hand.

- Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
Description
Easy oven roasted garlic that can be used fresh or frozen in ice cube trays to be easily tossed in to recipes when you need them.
Ingredients
- fresh peeled garlic (I get the 3 lb pound bag of already peeled garlic cloves from Sam’s Club, but you can do this same recipe with however many heads of garlic you’d want to peel)
- olive oil
Instructions
- Turn your oven to 400°F.
- Place your fresh peeled garlic into a baking dish of appropriate size. For the 3lb bag from Sam’s Club I use a 9″ x 13″ glass baking dish, but if you’re only doing a few heads of garlic, I’d recommend a smaller dish.
- Drizzle olive oil all over the garlic cloves and mix evenly. We’re not trying to drown the garlic. We just want a good, even coating.
- Cover with tin foil and bake in oven for about 30 minutes.
- Remove from oven and stir. Place back in oven for an additional 30 minutes. This will keep it from burning and sticking to the bottom of the dish.
- After a total of an hour in the oven, garlic should be soft and mashable. Remove from oven and mash it all into a paste. I use a potato masher to do this.
- Allow to cool.
- Spoon the mashed garlic into ice cube trays with lids and place in freezer. If you’re only making a small amount, it could be kept in a sealed container in the refrigerator for a few days.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 1 hour
